He was exiled not because he had no authority
He fought a good fight –
Defending his people and pride against all odds.
But their sophisticated tactics,
Weakened him totally.
And the conspiracy by his subjects,
Led to his outright removal as king.

The great Benin empire was desolated
The cries of young and old –
Heard everywhere like a church bell.
The land filled with the sacrifices of blood,
The throne seeing great abomination;
Could do nothing but call on its ancestors.
He tried all he could
But his efforts were “futile-lised”
By the supposed colonial superiors.
